General Purpose:
Ensures the design strategy and creative development of Herman Miller interior workplace environments and Global showroom programs from concept to completion. Reports to Creative Leadership and works directly with HMI Facilities team, Advanced Application team, external design resources and other key internal clients as required by project. Provides creative direction by conceptualizing, creating, and overseeing the execution of highly functional environments based on a keen understanding of workplace trends, deep understanding of Herman Miller product applications, and the Herman Miller brand narrative.
Essential Functions:
• Works with Creative Leaders and client to determine architectural preferences, purpose and function of environment, budget, types of construction, equipment to be installed, and other factors that affect planning interior environments.
• Provides creative direction for HMI workplace environments.
• Manages external stakeholders and influencers.
• Conducts external design resource identification, selection and management based on the requirements of the program.
• Integrates research findings with knowledge of interior design and formulates environmental plan to be practical and conducive to intended purposes, such as raising productivity, enhancing collaboration and selling/showcasing product ranges.
• Advises clients on interior design factors, such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, color schemes, and color coordination.
• Develops communication materials and execution details of design ideas and works in tandem with implementation team regarding material requirements and costs.
• Manages development of procurement documentation and specifications.
• Provides site direction and coaching to the project implementation team.
• Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field.
• Ten years experience in Interior Design or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Exhibits a work style that is assertive and initiative driven, with the self-confidence and ability to represent Herman Miller in a professional manner, gaining a high level of confidence from a diverse group of customers.
• Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects from concept to completion.
• Outstanding communication, presentation and design team collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the contract furniture industry.
• Relates to or has an interest in human-centered design solutions based on Workplace trends, and experience with a sustainable approach to design.
• Willingness to travel 30%.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software and tools currently used in the HMI office environment. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop, 3D-MAX & other design based software programs.
• Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
